My Invisalign Journey by Dr Peter Fellerman
Whilst I don’t show much of my lower teeth when I smile, the last straw was when I attended the international Invisalign conference in Dubai which seemed to be attended by dentists with teeth straighter than mine. Suddenly I became a patient! I understood what my patients meant when they said that they were embarrassed to smile and that they covered up their teeth.
My case was a little more complex than an average treatment requiring removal of a tooth to relieve the crowding. This is fairly unusual and most lnvisalign cases can be done without the need for an extraction.
Well I finally took the plunge had the tooth removed and Dr Sabila Odling-Smee, my experienced Invisalign colleague, placed the small attachments on my teeth and sent me on my way.
Time has flown and I am already on aligner number nine.
Suddenly, I have become an Invisalign patient and even though I thought I knew it all, there is nothing quite like experiencing the process for yourself.
Here are my tips for those of you thinking about going for it.
- If you are suitable, just get on with it! I procrastinated for years and wish I would have done it right at the start. if you have a big event that you’re planning & are hoping for lovely straight teeth, then it’s never too early to start.
- Definitely visit an experienced practitioner….. I would say that wouldn’t I! However careful treatment planning, and of course patient compliance, is the key to success.
- Don’t take my word for it, speak to someone who has had the treatment. There is nothing quite like hearing someone’s genuine personal experience.
